An Open Letter for Mr. Tim Tebow this Easter Morning – Be Careful of Whose Pulpit You Share!
Another morning another scandal it would appear this week, I believe Tim Tebow who has been lauded by many in the conservative (non-emergent / non-Word of Faith) side of things will be a bit surprised by my findings.
Cutting to the chase, I hope Mr. Tebow is right with our Lord! Mr. Tebow, I believe whoever set you up to speak at Celebration Church did not do their homework. Celebration Church with Pastors Joe Champion and co-Pastor Lori Champion are partnered with a number of emergent churches and even have had the recent Elevation Church “Code Orange Revival” speaker Christine Caine as a speaker who has her own church (female pastors unbiblical), and one who loves to bash the orthodox Christian music with comments as, “…some are still singing Noah’s greatest hits…” during her Code Orange even referred to her Hill Song counterparts famous song, “Shout to the Lord” as old music pushing for the same sort of “revival” through teachers such as Pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation Video Church. Caine uses words (connotations) comparable to the “Name it and Claim it” prosperity teachings that you (Tebow) already separated with Copeland right?
Why do I mention Caine first? Caine was in the Code Orange Revival, was equating those of us holding to the old ways to being stuck in the wilderness living on old dead manna while they have moved out of the moment (U2 song reference) – that we should be living for God in the here and now. Caine said some people don’t realize the manna has ceased back to our creeds and institutional ways, over and over caught up in methodology and style, and to that we should never confuse methodology with orthodoxy. Caine has worked with Pastor Joe Champion and co-Pastor Lori Champion on more than one occasion, spoken in Celebration Church, 8/1/2010 and through the Association of Related Churches (ARC) which the Champions are part of the leadership at the “All Access” conference this past March 27-29th along with other emergent names Stovall Weems, Ed Young plus more. Information linked to Apprising for more details.
This takes me to one year ago April 24, 2011, Pastor Joe Champion on Easter said this: (Emphasis underline and bold mine) (The entire sermon still available online on Celebration Church’s iTunes site)
“…In the same way remember the Lord, observe the night…. 19th birthday with son… you are not in a relationship with him…but you will remember if someone is in relationship that you are to honor them your are to remember them right? Well if you have a relationship to God guess what? Communion is for us to remember what he did for us– only through relationship, so I want you to honor the Lord today, I want you whether you are a believer or not, at least you know what you can do, Lord I will toast you, I will toast you, I don’t understand it, but God I do thank you, whoever you are Lord however all this works I do believe there is something to you. Will you stand to your feet the ushers will let you out row by row…”
Pastor Champion directly violates the very principles of the Lord’s Supper by inviting unbelievers to partake. Then to flippantly motion as if making a toast in the worldly sense saying “…Lord I will toast you, I will toast you, I don’t understand it, but God I do thank you…”- the very sort of behavior the Apostle Paul warned about!
1 Corinithians 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.”
Mr. Tim Tebow I hope you can state it right in the message this Easter morning! Pastor Champion committed a dangerous error and I pray you are not being swept away with the growing compromises being made to God’s Holy Word! There is so much more that can be said but this will have to be it for this morning’s news piece for Truth With Snares.
The Bible in context for the Communion
1 Corinthians 11:20-34 (KJV)
20 When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper.
21 For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.
23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.
30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.
34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.
