No longer can the immoral filth and lies be covered up, and now it is time for any supporters and endorsers of Hyles or Schaap to clean up their acts too. As for the immoral ones, many of them are already serving time or they have been publicly disgraced.
As for their supporters I have this to say to them. Having been someone on the outside recognizing the Hyles’ crowd cult-like attitude as an Independent Fundamental Baptist (IFBer) myself – I have left churches for quoting Hyles from the pulpit and did not mind telling the Pastors (yes plural) why I could not bear their idol worship. Seldom was it merely quoting Hyles comparing to a quote of let’s say Spurgeon, it was an every service thing most of the time with an added adoration of the great man of God Hyles was… I even had one pastor who had the gall to say they were not a “Hyles” type church when several of his elders and staff were proud Hyles-Anderson graduates! Denial did not become him, but we left quietly and found an IFB church where we are today that does not play the Hyles games or quote him favorably.
My point, I am aware of testimonies of some who have blackballed good men such as Biblical Evangelist Robert Sumner (linked here) who attempted in earnest to reveal the dangers of Hyles. I know there are others but Sumner’s testimony on these matters has been public for years and some key leaders in IFB churches and colleges. They need to account for their actions and lack thereof and seek forgiveness if they are the credible soul-winning leaders I hear they are? So time for those men to step forward since it appears they will not step forward on their own!? I have heard nothing publicly from these leaders, and searching the Internet appears to reveal just a distancing from Schaap at best but not what should be an open condemnation of that sin and anything connected to it. – Evangelist Sumner has no idea I am publishing this article, I do so out of a compassionate heart tugging at me to do so. Second, for any others deeply hurt by what has happened as result of Hyles-Anderson so they might independent of this article (and me) to seek forgiveness that healing can start.
Again, I have heard from other men and brothers in Christ these leaders I refer that once supported Hyles but blackballed or distanced themselves from men like Evangelist Sumner are supposed to be good men who preach the Gospel including repentance of sin – so I am NOT naming names myself (yet). I will personally send emails first then letters to see if I get a response and I will publicly show their response to their shame or good – but for God’s glory not mine. Egregious wrongs/sins committed if accounted for can forgiveness sought and heal a multitude of sins. Also at that point a good testimony can be restored showing how our Great God can heal!
I know am giving a great ‘benefit of a doubt’ that just perhaps some of the men I question did not know the depths of sin or to their own fault never looked into the antics at Hyles-Anderson. However, to my knowledge and others, these leaders of the IFB persuasion did know or were told of the immoral behavior and heresies in and coming out of Hyles-Anderson for many years yet said nothing publicly to warn fellow believers of the dangers!
For those directly connected to Hyles-Anderson? If you stumble upon my small blog, and you are not worshiping some new idol there – come out from among them! If by some miracle you are actually going to go back to the Bible and abandoning the man worship that has prevailed there for decades, I will pray you are right! It is hard not to be cynical at this point!
For those nasty arrogant so-called evangelists and other individuals that have personally attacked me through the Biblical Discernment site, if you notice this blog, I offer the same thing to you. I do not seek anything but you coming clean that you worshiped the man Hyles and were wrong! Can you bear it!? I do not want this to seem mean-spirited just to mock you – but make you look inside your heart to see the hatred you spewed towards me and other good men and women that might dare to question the teachings of Hyles. If you are willing to admit the wrong (sin) and seek forgiveness even if you do not remember who you offended, I will be happy to publish it on my blog or keep it private at your request.
Anyone stumbling onto my blog and have no clue what I am talking about, here are a number of links below my name. If you are in an Independent Fundamental Baptist (IFB) church still daring to quote those heretics Hyles or Schaap favorably – hold on! You are in for quite a ride – these quotes are backed up to the hilt often with where and when Hyles or Schaap said what they said or did! So get ready, you may need to abandon the church you are in and/or be brave as I have been in the past and bring these lies into the light of God’s Word. Clarified, bringing directly to your church leadership without discussion or gossip with others as appropriate. – Not saying what my family went through was painless but are we men pleasers or God pleasers? You must decide! Galatians 1:10 “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”

What Jack Schaap did was a horrible thing, but we should not define a brother in Christ by his sin. There were many things that God used him to do. Unfortunately, his pride got the best of him and led to his downfall. God is dealing with him and First Baptist Church.
I am good friends with many of the members and it is obvious that they have been awakened to the truth of God’s Word. The new pastor, John Wilkerson, seems to be almost the opposite in many of the errors that defined Bro. Schaap. I sincerely hope and pray that the name of Jesus is uplifted from the rubble that was once a prideful spiritual pyramid scheme. There are so many good people there that want God’s will to be done – only they’ve been duped to believe that the pastor is some kind of high priest. God has has been destroying this philosophy, and has shown that only one mediator between God and man remains and His name is Jesus Christ.
We need to continue to pray that those who would cling to a system of man and prop up the corporation that robs the church from its true identity will be stopped cold. There is still some of that going on, but more and more the members are seeing through the deception.
Thanks for the frank comments, I have not heard of the new leader but I am praying for First Baptist that things are changing for the better that at long last returning to a love for God and His Word.
Just because you have not heard of him is this a qualifying or disqualifying statement from you concerning the new pastor? I know him personally. Some things I agree with him and some things I so not. But it is not my opinion that qualifies a man. It is God’s hand on a man. John in my opinion is a man of great Christian character. But I don’t worship him. God removed Hyles in his time Schaap also. So I leave it up to God to sort out the deeds or misdeeds of men. I think a lot of people wade in the mud of Hyles and Schaap a misdeeds. Sort of like pilgrim in the slough of despond. I think that is just as wrong. Paul the apostle said “forgetting those things which are behind, I press…I say let’s do that. Keeping our own noses clean. Leave others deeds or misdeeds up to God. He is fully capable of handing the task. Hyles and Schaap prove that.
I stand by the letter as posted. We should not be quoting either of these men favorably (Hyles or Schaap) the history stretches back decades so when the nonsense and sexual escapades started doesn’t really matter the safe approach is mark and avoid. Perhaps they (First Baptist of Hammond, In and the school) are getting a fresh start with a Bible believing and teaching pastor now, I pray they are but we should not cover up this awful history as a warning to others that such behavior is unacceptable for any Christians much less Independent Fundamental Baptists! 1 Timothy 5:19-22 “Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. I charge [thee] before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.”
