Are You in Christ and Cussing, You Who Call Yourself a Christian?
2 Corinthians 13:5-6 “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.”
As one who grew into the world and its ways then went into the USAF, back in my foolish youth before I knew Christ as my savior, it seemed almost every other word from my mouth was a cuss word – then came Christ in my heart and it didn’t take long to be convicted by the Holy Spirit.
Gradually out of my vocabulary by God’s grace and the last time I know I slipped was in 1984 (forty years ago!) but then I was not heard due to a noisy truck passing by when it occurred. But I know who did hear me and I was ashamed!
Now I hear so many using the foulest words who claim to know our Lord!? And of those I hear many I know attend what I believe are Bible believing churches!? Seriously!?
As for me, I have worked alongside law enforcement for over 30 years so I have heard and still hear it all, and I know with all the filth I hear, if our God can show me the grace, and strength not to cuss and swear – then you can too! Why do I say that? I am nothing special, just another of God’s children just a bit gray and thinning on top… okay a lot of gray! But inside, I am still a child of the Great King! When you stay young inside, like that little child the Bible talks about this instruction, this doctrine is much easier to handle. I promise, this is where you can know there is true power in knowing our Savior Jesus Christ! He can give you the same filter He has given me, so stop cussing altogether conforming to Christ and not the world!
I also have a bone to pick with the politics of the day as well – if you call yourself a Christian or even a conservative – stop using those acronyms that mean those foul words! And certainly, do never join in the chants saying what it means!
I do know I am far from alone in this message! I have been seeing other brothers and sisters in Christ saying the same, and I believe the message is not from us but ultimately our Lord who undoubtedly grieved with this poor witness.
May this also serve as a witness against those who would share that awful meme about being a Christian who only cusses a little! May you depart from such a poor defense! If you do cuss, confess it and ask forgiveness — then stop it!
Remember, avoiding the appearance of evil, and not being conformed to this world are part of our walk, dying daily to our sins.
1 Corinthians 15:33 “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”
Further reading and I am sure many of you know more verses on this topic:
Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Ephesians 4:29-31 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:”
Romans 3:13-14 Their throat [is] an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps [is] under their lips: 14 Whose mouth [is] full of cursing and bitterness:”
